FAQs

We’re here to help.
OpenWhen App is designed to be simple, private, and thoughtful. If you’re unsure about anything, you’re not alone - and you can change most things at any time.

What is OpenWhen App?

1

OpenWhen App lets you write letters, notes, photos, and videos for your child to open later in life - at a time you choose.

Who can read my memories?

2

Only you can view or edit your memories while they are locked. Trusted contacts cannot see your content.

When can I access my memories?

3

You can return to your memories anytime unless you save and release the memory for immediate access. You can export your content at any time, dependent on your plan.

How do unlock dates work?

4

You can choose:

  • A specific date

  • A future age

  • Leave it unlocked for now

You can change this anytime before the memory opens.

What is a trusted contact?

5

A trusted contact is someone you choose to help verify circumstances if OpenWhen App ever needs confirmation to release memories. They do not have access to any content. The main user can choose to add or remove a trusted contact at any point.

What is a loved ones profile?

6

A Loved Ones Profile is a private space where you can store messages, memories, photos, and videos. Each profile is separate and securely protected. You can edit their details and email address for future release.

What happens if something happens to me?

7

If you’ve set up a Trusted Contact they may be asked to verify circumstances. They will not see your memories - only confirm verification if required.

I need estate or legal advice — can OpenWhen App help?

8

No. OpenWhen App does not provide legal, estate, or financial advice.

While OpenWhen App allows you to create and store personal messages and memories, it should not be used as a substitute for a will, estate plan, or any legal document.

If you are making decisions about your estate, guardianship, or legal arrangements, we strongly recommend speaking with a qualified professional such as a lawyer, estate planner, or financial advisor. You can include personal thoughts or guidance, but these are not legally binding.
